Most people relate Digital Transformation with technology … maybe for them, digital transformation is implementing some cutting-edge technologies like IoT, Cognitive Computing, Blockchain, Robotics, Cloud, Big Data and Advanced Analytics. But like in other occasions … the issue is not technology by itself, because many projects implementing cutting edge technologies will not be used or will not achieve the desired outcome. These technologies are the enabler, but Digital Transformation goes beyond technology.
Is “ how technology changes the conditions under which business is done, in ways that change the expectations of customers, partners, and employees”*, that is really important, not just technology by itself. Identifying these new expectations is key to transform and adapt to the new conditions enabled by technology.

As digital business becomes increasingly important (as the enterprise’s operating model is digitalized), enterprise architects need to understand and track innovative technologies, anchor them in the business model to assess their potential, and use rapid prototyping approaches to evolve innovations.
