Most people relate Digital Transformation with technology … maybe for them, digital transformation is implementing some cutting-edge technologies like IoT, Cognitive Computing, Blockchain, Robotics, Cloud, Big Data and Advanced Analytics. But like in other occasions … the issue is not technology by itself, because many projects implementing cutting edge technologies will not be used or will not achieve the desired outcome. These technologies are the enabler, but Digital Transformation goes beyond technology.
Is “ how technology changes the conditions under which business is done, in ways that change the expectations of customers, partners, and employees”*, that is really important, not just technology by itself. Identifying these new expectations is key to transform and adapt to the new conditions enabled by technology.
“Many of the most significant technological changes to the competitive environment your company faces lay outside your control, but they are created by a pervasive digital infrastructure that continues to evolve.”*
To analyze the new expectations and implement this transformation, organizations should focus on opportunities to improve customer, partner and employee experiences, observe and analyze them using human centered design methodologies like Design Thinking.
The key question of digital transformation is whether your organization is paying close attention, to respond accordingly to these new expectations for how business is done — or a startup will respond first?
One crucial aspect, is that this will not happen just in a moment in time, this will be a continuous process of observing and adapting to a constantly changing environment.
